Really enjoyed this gripping episode in the DI Robyn Carter series.
When a young man is murdered and left in a field in a ritualistic type pose, DI Carter is called to investigate. With friends and family of the victim withholding information or out-right lying, Robyn finds that everyone seems to have a secret they do not wish to share. When more bodies start turning up, the pressure is on to find the killer.
Unlike in some detective stories, DI Carter is not a one-man band, she uses the full force of her team and relies on their individual skills. This book was not filled with an abundance of technical jargon which made it easy to read and follow the progress on the investigation. I liked the flashback sequences that helped add to the suspense and mystery, they also provided some insight into the thinking of the suspects.
This was the first book I had read by this author and as such I had not read the previous books in this series. There is definitely an underlying backstory around the main characters, however this did not detract from my enjoyment of this book and has piqued my interest to find out what has happened before. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series. I’m also keen to find out what is going to be next for DI Carter following her recent unexpected visitor.
An intriguing murder investigation that will keep you guessing.
